The 7 Layers of the Aura

Your aura is not a single field but a nested series of energy bodies, each carrying different information about your physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual state

Physical/Etheric Body

Layer 1 — Closest to skin, extends 1-2 inches

The etheric body is the energetic template upon which your physical body is built. It vibrates at a very low frequency, closely mirroring the physical form. This layer is where physical sensations, pain, and pleasure register energetically before manifesting in the body. Clairvoyants see it as a gray-blue or grayish light, sometimes with energy lines (nadis) visible like a luminous web. Athletes often have a particularly strong, bright etheric layer. Illness appears first in this layer before manifesting physically — energy healers work here to intercept disease before it solidifies.

Emotional Body

Layer 2 — Extends 1-3 inches beyond physical

The emotional body is in constant flux — it shifts with every feeling, ranging from murky browns and grays during depression to brilliant reds, oranges, and pinks during joy and love. This layer stores emotional memories and patterns. Unprocessed trauma appears as dark spots or tears. Recurring emotional patterns create grooves in this layer that must be consciously healed. People with highly developed empathy often unconsciously sense others' emotional auras and absorb their emotional states — proper energetic hygiene is essential.

Mental Body

Layer 3 — Extends 3-8 inches beyond physical

The mental body carries thought forms — it shimmers and pulsates with yellow-golden light when the intellect is active. Highly intellectual people have large, bright mental bodies. Repetitive thought patterns become crystallized structures within this layer. Beliefs and ideas exist as forms that can be seen by trained clairvoyants. Toxic thought patterns appear as dull gray masses. The mental body interpenetrates but extends further than the emotional body, and habitual thoughts literally shape its structure over time.

Astral Body

Layer 4 — Extends 6-12 inches beyond physical

The astral body is the bridge between the lower three layers (physical-emotional-mental) and the higher spiritual layers. It is the vehicle of astral travel during dreams and out-of-body experiences. Rose-colored clouds of light indicate love and affection. Cords of light connect people in relationships — some healthy, some parasitic. The astral body is also where psychic attacks land first. Daily clearing of astral cords is recommended for empaths and healers. This layer often reveals karmic connections with other souls.

Etheric Template

Layer 5 — Extends 18-24 inches beyond physical

The etheric template is the perfect blueprint of the physical body — not as it currently exists, but as it is meant to exist in its ideal state. Sound healers and energy workers work at this level, using tones and frequencies to correct distortions in the template that have caused physical illness. This layer appears as a negative space or mold — a clear or cobalt blue void in the shape of the body that the lower layers fill. Healing at this level creates lasting physical change because you're correcting the pattern itself.

Celestial Body

Layer 6 — Extends 24-36 inches beyond physical

The celestial body is the seat of unconditional love and spiritual ecstasy. It is the emotional level of the spiritual plane — where the feeling of divine love, bliss, and universal connection originates. It appears as a shimmering opalescent light, often with gold and silver threads of light streaming outward. Moments of profound meditation, prayer, or spiritual experience activate and expand this layer. This is the layer that mystics and saints are visible through when radiating spiritual light.

Ketheric/Causal Body

Layer 7 — Extends 36-48 inches beyond physical

The ketheric body is the outermost and most spiritual layer — the mental level of the spiritual plane. It contains the soul's entire history across all lifetimes as a golden grid of light. The Akashic records are accessible from this level. It appears as a golden egg that contains and protects all other layers. When fully charged and healthy, the ketheric body pulses with a golden light that connects to universal consciousness. Damage here comes from profound spiritual trauma or violations of soul purpose. True healers work at this level.

How to See Auras

Six proven techniques from beginner to advanced — aura sight is a learnable perceptual skill, not a mystical gift

Peripheral Vision Soft Focus

  1. Sit your subject against a plain white or neutral wall in soft, diffused light (not harsh direct light).
  2. Ask them to stand or sit still. Relax your own breathing and soften your mental chatter.
  3. Focus your eyes on a single point in the center of their chest or forehead — not hard staring, but soft focus as if looking at something slightly behind them.
  4. After 30-60 seconds of soft focus, let your peripheral vision expand. You're looking AROUND the person, not AT them.
  5. You may first see a colorless band of light close to the skin — the etheric layer. This is normal and a genuine first step.
  6. With practice over weeks and months, colors will begin to appear. Most people first see light or dark shading, then pale colors, then more vivid hues.

Candle Gaze Practice

  1. Set a candle at arm's length in a dark room. Gaze softly at the flame.
  2. After 2-3 minutes, look at your own hand held in front of the candle against a dark background.
  3. Allow your gaze to soften. Notice any light or color around the edges of your fingers.
  4. The space between your fingers often shows aura energy most clearly for beginners.
  5. Practice daily for 5-10 minutes. The 'aura sight' muscle develops like any other perceptual skill.
  6. Progress by having someone hold their hand against the dark background and practicing reading their energy.

Mirror Gazing

  1. Sit 2-3 feet from a mirror in dim lighting — not dark, but gentle and diffused.
  2. Soften your gaze and look at the area just above your own head and around your shoulders.
  3. Relax your jaw and breathe slowly. Don't try to see anything — let it come.
  4. After several minutes of soft gazing, subtle light may appear around your head and shoulders.
  5. This is both a vision training exercise and a powerful self-examination tool.
  6. The aura you see around yourself reflects your current emotional and spiritual state — notice how it changes on different days.

Afterimage Training

  1. Stare at a bright red object against a white background for 30-60 seconds without blinking.
  2. Then look at a plain white wall. You'll see a cyan/green afterimage — the complementary color.
  3. This trains your visual cortex to perceive subtle color differences at edges.
  4. Practice with different colors. Soon your eye will become sensitized to color variations at body edges.
  5. The aura often appears as the complementary color of the person's dominant emotion — which is why this practice builds real aura perception, not imagination.
  6. Do this exercise 5 minutes daily for 30 days to significantly increase visual sensitivity.

Kirlian Photography Awareness

  1. Kirlian photography captures the corona discharge of electrical fields around objects including fingertips.
  2. Before your aura reading sessions, look at Kirlian photographs of hands to train your brain on what energy fields look like.
  3. This mental priming activates pattern recognition pathways that help you perceive subtle energy fields in real life.
  4. Study Kirlian images of healthy vs. stressed individuals — the patterns are dramatically different.
  5. Your brain has extraordinary pattern recognition. Give it the right training data and it will begin detecting real energy fields.
  6. This scientific grounding also helps you distinguish genuine perception from wishful imagination.

Meditation Development

  1. Daily meditation directly develops aura sight by strengthening your ability to perceive subtle phenomena.
  2. Begin each practice with 10 minutes of single-pointed concentration — a candle, breath, or mantra.
  3. Then practice open awareness meditation: notice everything in your field of perception without labeling or grasping.
  4. This open awareness state is the consciousness from which aura perception operates.
  5. After 3 months of daily practice, most meditators report seeing some form of subtle light or color around people.
  6. The key insight: you are not learning to see something new — you are learning to notice what you already see but habitually ignore.

Aura Photography Guide

What it is, how it works, and how to interpret your aura photograph

  • Aura photography uses a specialized camera system developed by Guy Coggins in 1992 called the AuraCam 6000. The camera captures Kirlian-style corona discharge from sensors placed on the subject's palms, then uses algorithms to translate this biofeedback data into color overlays superimposed on a portrait photograph.
  • The science behind aura photography: your hands contain dense concentrations of nerve endings and sweat glands. Slight electrical variations in skin conductance reflect your autonomic nervous system state. The camera measures these variations and maps them to color frequencies based on established biofeedback research correlating emotional states with bio-electrical patterns.
  • What the colors in aura photos mean: reds and oranges near the body show physical energy and vitality. Greens and blues indicate emotional balance or healing states. Purples and whites suggest heightened spiritual awareness. Dark spots or gaps may indicate areas of stress, illness, or blocked energy.
  • What to do before an aura photo: avoid caffeine 2 hours beforehand, wear solid-colored clothing (patterns confuse the overlay), meditate for 10 minutes beforehand, and remove metal jewelry. Your emotional state at the moment of the photo is what the camera captures — so enter the session calmly and intentionally.
  • Interpreting your aura photo: the dominant color in the upper portion of the photo (above your head) reflects your mental state and spiritual focus. Colors near your body reflect physical and emotional states. Look for asymmetry between left side (receptive, past, yin) and right side (active, present, yang) — significant differences suggest imbalances to address.
  • Professional aura readings vs. home apps: many smartphone apps claim to photograph auras but are simply applying random color filters to photographs. Genuine aura photography requires physical biofeedback sensors. If you're investing in an aura photo, seek practitioners using actual Kirlian or AuraCam systems with hand sensors, not just phone cameras.

Aura Cleansing Techniques

Six powerful methods to clear, protect, and strengthen your energy field

Salt Bath Cleanse

Add 2 cups sea salt or Himalayan pink salt to a warm bath. Soak for 20 minutes, visualizing all stagnant and negative energy dissolving into the water. Pull the plug while still in the tub and visualize the darkness draining away. Step out feeling clean and clear. Do weekly or after draining encounters.

Smoke Cleansing

Use white sage, palo santo, or cedar smoke. Pass the smoke around your entire body, starting at your feet and moving upward. Pay special attention to your head, heart, and hands. Open a window so the negative energy has somewhere to go. The smoke molecules actually bind to positive ions (created by electronics and stress) and neutralize them.

Crystal Aura Comb

Hold a selenite wand 3-6 inches from your body. Starting above your head, slowly sweep down your entire body, front and back. Selenite's frequency literally breaks up energetic blockages and clears your aura. After combing, cleanse the selenite under moonlight. This is one of the fastest and most effective aura cleansing methods.

Visualization Shield

Close your eyes. Visualize a brilliant white or gold light surrounding your entire body like an egg. See it become solid, impenetrable, gleaming. Say: 'Only love and light may enter my field. Everything else bounces off.' Hold this image for 2 minutes. Practice until you can activate it instantly. This is your daily protection — do it every morning.

Water Purification

Stand under a shower or waterfall. Visualize the water as liquid light — white, gold, or violet. See it washing away all darkness, cords, attachments, and stagnant energy. Watch the dark energy flow down the drain and into the earth for transmutation. Cold water is especially effective. Some traditions use rain water or ocean water for enhanced cleansing.

Sound Clearing

Use a singing bowl, tuning fork, bell, drum, or your own voice (chanting OM). Move the sound source around your body. Sound waves literally shake loose stagnant energy the way vibration shakes loose dirt. Tibetan singing bowls are especially effective because they produce multiple harmonics simultaneously. 7 minutes is sufficient for a full aura clearing.
