Candle Color Meanings
White
All-purpose — can substitute for any color. New beginnings, cleansing rituals, connecting with the divine, full moon work, purifying spaces.
Black

Red

Pink

Taper
The classic long, thin candle. Burns approximately 1 hour per inch. Best for spells that unfold gradually over the burn time — the intention strengthens as the flame descends. Standard choice for ritual altar work.
Pillar
Thick, freestanding candle. Can burn for days. Best for long-term spells that require sustained energy over time — a seven-day intention, a month-long goal, or ongoing protection work.
Votive
Short, squat candle meant to burn fully in one sitting. Best for quick prayers, immediate requests, and spells that need to complete in a single session.
Chime
Miniature 4-inch taper candles. Popular for daily practice and spellwork because they burn fully in about 2 hours. Low cost, easy to work with, available in all colors.
Figure Candle
Shaped like a human form (male or female), skull, cat, cross, or other symbolic object. The shape amplifies the focus of the spell — a human figure candle for person-specific work, a skull for ancestor work.
7-Day Glass Candle
Tall glass-encased pillar candle. Burns continuously for 5-7 days. Ideal for ongoing petition work, novena-style prayers, and spells you set and allow to work without constant attention.
Skull
For ancestor work, Samhain rituals, working with the spirits of the dead, and confronting mortality. Not inherently dangerous — skulls honor the sacred cycle of death and rebirth.
Floating
Disc-shaped candles designed to float in water. Perfect for water element magic, offering to sea or river spirits, grief rituals, and emotional release ceremonies.
Birthday
Small candles originally meant for cakes. Excellent for quick wish magic, single desire spells, and situations where you need to burn a candle in one short session of under 30 minutes.
Tealight
Small wax disc in a metal or plastic cup. Burns 3-4 hours. Versatile and affordable. Use in spell grids, large rituals requiring many candles, or as ongoing altar lights.
Candle Dressing Techniques
Anointing with Oil
Dress the candle with your chosen ritual oil. Direction matters: to attract, anoint from the top of the candle to the middle, then from the bottom to the middle (drawing energy inward). To banish or send away, anoint from the middle to the top, then middle to the bottom (pushing energy outward). Use your dominant hand and breathe your intention into every stroke.
Herbal Rolling
After oiling the candle until it is tacky, roll it across a plate of crushed dried herbs. Choose herbs aligned with your intention: cinnamon for money and speed, rose petals for love, dried sage for protection and cleansing, lavender for peace and sleep, bay leaf for success, chamomile for healing. Press the herbs gently into the wax.
Carving
Use a pin, nail, or ritual bolline to carve words, names, symbols, runes, or sigils into the wax before burning. To attract: carve symbols pointing upward or toward you. To banish: carve pointing down or away. Include dates, astrological symbols, or planetary glyphs for time-specific spells. Speak aloud what you carve as you carve it.
Charging with Intention
Hold the undressed candle between your palms. Close your eyes. Breathe deeply and deliberately push your intention — felt as a warm, focused pressure — from your hands into the wax. Visualize your outcome as already accomplished. The candle becomes a battery of your concentrated will. This step is mandatory before any serious spell work.
Color Layering and Multiple Candles
For complex spells, use multiple candles of different colors either simultaneously or in sequence. A love and money spell might use pink and green candles burning simultaneously. A multi-stage spell might use white (cleansing) followed by green (attraction) on separate nights. The energies blend and build when used together intentionally.
Candle Dressing Oils
Ritual oils focus and amplify your intention. Each formula is crafted for a specific magical purpose. Use a few drops — more is not more effective.
Come to Me Oil
A classic conjure oil for drawing love, romance, and the affection of others. Used on pink and red candles for love spells, also on job or money candles when you want to draw a specific thing toward you.
Road Opener Oil
Clears blocked paths and opens doors in any life area. Use on orange candles before major transitions, new ventures, or when progress has stalled for no visible reason.
Fiery Wall of Protection Oil
Heavy protection oil that creates an impenetrable energetic barrier. Use on black or white candles for protection spells and to repel active magical attacks or harmful intentions.
Money Drawing Oil
Formulated to attract financial abundance. Use on green or gold candles for all wealth work. Often contains cinnamon, mint, and pyrite-charged base oil.
Healing Oil
Promotes physical and emotional healing. Use on blue candles for healing spells. Can be applied to the body (on pulse points) in conjunction with candle work for enhanced effect.
Crown of Success Oil
Opens the road to achievement and success in career, creative, or competitive endeavors. Use on gold or orange candles before major milestones, competitions, or achievements.
Van Van Oil
A multipurpose clearing and luck-drawing oil from the New Orleans Voodoo tradition. Clears crossed conditions, removes obstacles, and draws good luck. Use when nothing else is working.
Black Arts Oil
A powerful banishing and crossing oil for serious protective work. Use only on black candles, only for justified banishing of active threats. Not for casual use.
Attraction Oil
A general-purpose drawing oil that attracts good things across all areas — love, money, friendship, opportunity. Use when you want to increase your general magnetism and luck.
Fast Luck Oil
Speeds up the manifestation of any spell already in progress. Use when urgency is needed or when a situation is stalled. Often contains cinnamon, wintergreen, and vanilla.
Complete Candle Spells
Each spell is fully written out. Read the complete instructions before beginning. Assemble all materials in advance. Never improvise mid-spell.
Money Draw Candle
- Write your exact financial goal on the dollar bill along with a date. Be specific: not 'more money' but an amount and purpose.
- Carve that same amount and date into the candle. Add your initials or a dollar sign.
- Anoint the candle with cinnamon oil, drawing from top and bottom toward the center to pull money in.
- Place the candle on top of the dollar bill with the aventurine touching the base of the candle.
- Light the candle on a Thursday during a waxing moon if possible. Say: 'As this flame burns, money flows to me. My goal is met. So it is.'
- If using a chime candle: let it burn completely. If using a pillar: burn for one hour per day for seven days, adding a coin to the base each day.
- On the final burn, wrap the coins and dollar bill in green cloth and keep in your wallet or cash register.
- The combination of specific intention + cinnamon heat + green attraction energy creates a concentrated financial magnetism.
Love Attraction Spell
- On the paper, write your name. On a separate line, write the qualities you seek in a partner. Do NOT write a specific person's name.
- Carve your name and a simple heart into one candle. Leave the other plain (the unwritten beloved).
- Anoint both candles with rose oil, drawing from both ends toward the center.
- Place the candles 12 inches apart with rose quartz between them and the paper underneath.
- Light both candles on a Friday evening. Meditate on the feeling of being loved — not a face, just the feeling.
- Let them burn for 30 minutes. Each night for seven nights, move each candle one inch closer to the center.
- On the seventh night they should be touching. Light them, let them burn together completely.
- Tie the remains with red thread and keep under your pillow for 28 days.
Protection Shield
- Cleanse your space first. Open windows to let out old energy, then close them.
- Place the four black candles at the cardinal points of your space (North, South, East, West).
- Place the white candle in the center representing your protected self.
- Pour a thin line of salt connecting all four black candles in a circle.
- Anoint each candle with Florida Water or protection oil, rubbing from middle outward to push harm away.
- Light the black candles first, starting in the North and moving clockwise, saying at each: 'No harm enters here.'
- Light the center white candle last: 'I am protected. I am safe. Only love and good may enter this space.'
- Place black tourmaline beside the white candle. Let all candles burn safely to completion.
- Sweep the salt out your front door the next morning to carry away what was absorbed.
Healing Light Spell
- Write the ill person's full name and date of birth on a small piece of paper.
- Place the paper beneath the candle. Set the amethyst on top of the paper.
- Carve the person's name into the blue candle, followed by the words 'Perfect Health' above or below.
- Anoint with eucalyptus oil (or any healing oil) from the base of the candle upward, drawing health energy up.
- Light the candle and close your eyes. Visualize the person bathed in warm blue-white light. See them healthy, vital, and whole.
- Speak aloud: 'I send [name] healing light and perfect health. Their body knows how to heal itself. So it is.'
- Let the candle burn for 20-30 minutes. Repeat daily until the candle is gone or health improves.
- If the person is far away, the energy travels — distance is not a barrier in energy work.
Psychic Vision
- Perform this ritual at night, preferably on or near a full moon.
- Set up your space with the candle before the small mirror so you can see the flame reflected.
- Light lavender incense to open psychic channels and clear mental static.
- Anoint the purple candle with mugwort oil (associated with dreams and vision) from base to tip.
- Carve the third eye symbol (an eye or upward-pointing triangle) into the candle.
- Sit comfortably with the amethyst in your non-dominant (receiving) hand.
- Light the candle. Gaze softly at the flame or its reflection — do not stare hard, let your eyes relax.
- Breathe deeply for five minutes before asking your question or simply opening to receive. Notice images, words, feelings.
- Write everything down immediately afterward, even fragments that seem nonsensical. Patterns emerge over time.
Banishing Negativity
- Write clearly on the paper what you are banishing: a habit, a person's influence, a thought pattern, a hex.
- Fold the paper away from you three times, turning it counterclockwise between each fold.
- Carve X marks and the word 'BEGONE' into the black candle.
- Anoint the candle with banishing oil from the center of the candle outward toward both ends, pushing the energy away.
- Light the candle. Hold the folded paper in the flame and let it catch, then drop into a fireproof bowl.
- As it burns say: 'I release this. It has no power over me. It leaves my life now and does not return.'
- Let the candle burn completely. Gather the ashes of the paper and the candle remains.
- Dispose of everything at a crossroads, in running water, or in a trash bin far from your home.
Road Opener Spell
- This spell clears blocked paths and opens new opportunities across all life areas.
- Place the key at the base of the orange candle — it symbolizes the doors about to open.
- Write on bay leaves the specific areas you want opened: career, love, home, finances.
- Anoint the candle with Road Opener oil from base to tip, drawing energy upward and forward.
- Sprinkle yellow mustard seed around the base of the candle — mustard seed in hoodoo tradition forces open what is stuck.
- Light the candle on a Sunday morning when the sun is rising — aligning with the sun's energy of opening.
- Speak: 'All roads before me open. All doors that serve my highest good unlock now. New paths appear. I walk forward freely.'
- When done, carry the key in your pocket for seven days as a tangible reminder that the way is open.
Court Case Victory
- This spell petitions for a just outcome — use only when your cause is genuinely righteous.
- Write the case details on paper: your name, the opposing party, the court, the date, the just outcome you seek.
- Fold the paper toward you three times (drawing victory toward you).
- Place the lodestone on top of the folded paper — lodestones magnetically draw desired outcomes.
- Sprinkle a small amount of brown sugar over the paper and stone to sweeten the judge and jury toward you.
- Carve 'JUSTICE' and your name into the candle. Anoint with justice oil.
- Light the candle daily for seven days leading up to the hearing. Each day, speak the just outcome aloud as if it has already happened.
- On the day of the proceeding, carry the lodestone in your pocket. Wash your hands in salt water before entering the courtroom.
Fertility Blessing
- This spell blesses fertility in all its forms — physical, creative, financial, or the fertility of new beginnings.
- Place the dish of soil at the altar with the seed resting in it but not yet planted.
- Carve the symbol of your specific fertility desire into the candle: a moon for receptive fertility, a sun for active creativity.
- Anoint the candle with rose oil from base to tip, drawing the generative energy upward.
- Hold the moonstone between your palms and feel the magnetic lunar pull — the stone of growth and cycles.
- Light the candle. Speak over the unplanted seed: 'This seed holds what I am calling into being. It grows in the right time. It is blessed.'
- Let the candle burn for 30 minutes, then plant the seed in the soil while the candle is still lit.
- Water the seed as the candle finishes. Tend it as you tend your intention — with daily attention and faith.
New Job Manifestation
- Write the specific job description you want — title, company type, salary range, work environment — on a piece of paper.
- Fold the paper toward you three times. Place it beneath both candles side by side (orange for opportunity, green for abundance).
- Carve your name and 'RIGHT WORK, RIGHT PAY' into both candles.
- Anoint with success oil, drawing from both ends toward the center on both candles.
- Sprinkle cinnamon (speed and success) and basil (money and prosperity) around both candles.
- Light both candles and speak aloud: 'My ideal work finds me. I am seen, valued, and compensated fairly. This or something better arrives now.'
- Burn for 30 minutes daily for five days — one for each weekday, the working days of the material world.
- Apply to at least one real job each day the candles burn — magic and action must work together.
Confidence Boost
- This spell rewires your self-perception by anchoring new beliefs in the physical object of light.
- Set the candle in front of a mirror so you can see both the flame and yourself when you sit before it.
- Hold the tiger's eye in your dominant hand — it carries the energy of the sun's courage.
- Carve your name into the candle, then beneath it carve: 'WORTHY. CAPABLE. SEEN.'
- Anoint with bergamot oil (confidence, clarity, and lifting self-doubt) from base upward.
- Light the candle. Look at yourself in the mirror — not critically, but with the same soft gaze you would give someone you love.
- Say aloud three times with increasing force: 'I am worthy of good things. I belong in rooms I have not yet entered. My presence is a gift.'
- Hold the tiger's eye for five minutes after the candle is out. Carry it with you on days of challenge.
Cord Cutting Ritual
- This ritual severs energetic ties to a person, situation, or emotional pattern. Advanced: requires absolute clarity of intention.
- Represent yourself with one candle. Carve your name into it. The other candle represents the connection or person you are cutting. Carve their name or the word 'ATTACHMENT' into it.
- Place them 12 inches apart. Tie them together with the black cord.
- Anoint both candles with clove oil (for severing and protection) from the middle outward.
- Light both candles. Sit quietly for a moment and acknowledge what this connection gave you, even if it hurt you.
- Say: 'I honor what was. I release what no longer serves. I cut these cords with love and with finality.'
- Using the scissors, cut the cord between the two candles in one clean, decisive snip.
- Let your candle burn. Either snuff the other candle (gentle release) or let it burn out (full severance).
- Drop all cord remnants into the salt water. Pour the salt water down the drain or into running water outside.

Fire Safety — Non-Negotiable Rules
- NEVER leave a burning candle unattended. Full stop. No spell, prayer, or tradition is worth your home or your life. Period.
- Use only fireproof holders — ceramic, glass, iron, or brass. Never set a candle on wood, cloth, paper, or any flammable surface without a proper heat-resistant barrier beneath.
- Keep a 12-inch minimum clearance from curtains, papers, dried herbs, fabric, and all flammable materials. Herbs and flowers near candles catch fire faster than you expect.
- Trim wicks to one-quarter inch before EVERY lighting. Long wicks produce large flames, excess smoke, and uneven burns that can cause the candle to crack or shatter.
- If a spell candle must burn out completely and you cannot supervise it, place it in your bathtub or kitchen sink on a fireproof surface with nothing flammable within reach.
- Never use water to extinguish a spell candle — water shatters the energy of the spell and can crack glass containers. Use a snuffer or pinch the wick between wet fingers.
- Glass candle containers can crack if they become too hot. Check periodically. If a glass begins to crack, snuff the flame and move it to a safe location before it shatters.
- Dispose of spell remains with intention. For attraction spells: bury remains near your front door or in your garden. For banishing spells: throw at a crossroads, dispose in running water, or in a trash bin outside your home.
Ethical Considerations
- Never cast a spell to control another person's free will. Attraction spells that call a specific named person toward you against their will are a violation of their autonomy — and they will backfire.
- Healing spells for others should be cast with their knowledge and permission whenever possible. Even healing sent without consent can impose your will on someone else's process.
- Do not cast spells while angry. Anger is a valid emotion but a terrible magical director. A spell cast in rage attracts consequences you did not consciously choose.
- Consider the rule of return (karma, the threefold law, or simple cause and effect). What you send out returns to you in some form. Act accordingly.
- Magic is a tool — like any tool, its ethics depend entirely on how you use it. Defensive protection, self-healing, and abundance work are universally ethical. Manipulation, control, and cursing are not.
