Daily Rune Meditation Practice

Working With Your Daily Rune

Drawing a single rune each morning is one of the most powerful daily spiritual practices in Norse tradition. Here is how to work with it fully:

  1. Morning Draw: Before checking your phone, reach into your rune bag without looking. Draw one rune and hold it in your receiving (non-dominant) hand.
  2. First Impression: Without looking up the meaning, notice what your body feels. Does the rune feel light or heavy? Does a color, image, or feeling arise immediately? Trust this.
  3. Consult the Meaning: Read the upright meaning of your rune. If it came out reversed (you will know — the carved or marked side is upside down), read the reversed meaning.
  4. Set an Intention: How can you embody or work with this rune today? Fehu might mean looking for opportunities. Isa might mean practicing stillness. Write one sentence.
  5. Carry It With You: If you have a physical rune set, carry the drawn rune in your pocket. Let it be a physical reminder of your daily theme.
  6. Evening Reflection: At night, hold the rune again. In what ways did its energy show up today? Where did you succeed in working with it? Where did you resist?
  7. Record in Your Rune Journal: Note the date, the rune drawn, its orientation, your morning intention, and your evening reflection. Patterns emerge over weeks and months.

The runes are not fortune-telling devices — they are mirrors. What appears is always what you most need to work with, even when it is not what you wanted to see.
